Our most limiting resources isn’t time but energy. Of course, as a leader, director you can scale your organizations and teams but your ultimately bound by the energy available. That determines the work you can do – and a broader way how vital you are.
Leaders are doing the 5 AM club, perhaps micro dosing, ready Energy Management literature like the power of Full Engament – which is a good book – although not tapping into one of the best resources of increasing their energy: stopping our energy leaks.
With energy leaks, we spent an enormous amount unconsciously on:
- Unnecessary and unpleasant emotions
- Bad moods
- Unnecessary hate and tension in the body
- Imagination and day dreaming – squandering our attention
The challenge remains making the unconscious conscious. Therefore, in this series I will share with you ‘the secrets’ of energy management from ancient wisdom to stop energy leaks first. Later on, I will show you how to increase energy. Don’t get fooled by charlatans sometimes between stopping and generating high levels of energy – can take quite some time. If you overcome energy leaks, you’re transcending above the masses.

Energy leak #1 – involuntary tension of the body
“One thing is definitely known: one of the chief leakages of energy is due to our involuntary tension. We have many other leakages, but they are all more difficult to repair than the first. So we shall begin with the easiest: to get rid of this leakage and to learn to be able to deal with the others.”
Most of the tensions is our body are because of unconsciousness and there is not direct relation between ‘our will’ and an appropriate tension in the body. Think about something like carrying groceries or picking up something from the ground. We might use 100% muscle tension while it only requires a bit of tension. Or the tension that builds up in our shoulders because of working behind a desk.
The first stopping of energy leak is that of the body becoming aware of our automatic habits of building up tension and using too much energy not appropriate for an action and the ability to know how to deeply relax the tension.
Energy leak #2 – Idle Talk
Engaging in meaningless or excessive chatter, gossip, or idle conversations is a significant energy leak. It’s important to speak purposefully and mindfully. I’m not talking only about small talk, also the amount of meetings or sometimes the amount of energy and words we use to convey a message or to align our thinking, speaking and acting. Additionally, our society isn’t used to be silent or the power of silence. It seems that idle talking – sometimes to discharge anxiety – is the preferred modus operandi.
